Mistral Shawl knitting pattern
Mistral Shawl knitting pattern
Mistral Shawl knitting pattern from the Summer in France Collection by Lavender Hill Knits
In the Rhône Valley of Southern France, a strong, cold northwesterly wind called the Mistral is common in winter and spring. It brings clear, dry air into the region making the agricultural conditions perfect for growing grapes used to make wine. The Southern Rhône area is home to many vineyards producing several varieties of wine. One of the most famous wines is Châteauneuf-du-pape, a lovely red blend.
The Mistral wind inspired this shawl with its flowing lines representing the winds that pass over the landscape. The pattern consists of increases on one edge, and a simple repeating lace pattern along another edge that is easily memorized once you get going. Easy enough that you could even enjoy a glass of Châteauneuf-du-pape while you knit! The shawl is asymmetrical, completely reversible, and looks perfect no matter how you wear it. Cheers!
