Crape Myrtle Shawl/Scarf Knitting Pattern from the ~Sweet Tea Scarf Pattern Collection~ by Lavender Hill Knits

The Sweet Tea Scarf Collection includes patterns inspired by all the things I love about living in the South ~ grand front porches, lush trees and plants, summer rainstorms, misty spring mornings in the Smoky Mountains, rolling hills of fall color and sippin' sweet tea year-round. The scarves in this collection can be worn indoors or out and are equally at home with a t-shirt and jeans as a skirt or dress. They can be made using light wool sock yarn or try using fingering weight cotton.
So gather your yarn and needles, a tall glass of sweet tea and settle into a comfy rocker on the porch...happy knitting!

Crape Myrtle trees are very common ornamental trees found in the South. In full bloom they look like big bouquets of flowers and leaves. The leaf pattern in this scarf/shawl mimics the upright columns of leaves on the Crape Myrtle branches and the edging mimics the beautiful buds at the ends of the branches. The edging I created is a variation of an Estonian lace edging using “nupps” as bobbles to give the illusion of the buds on the Crape Myrtle. The fourth photo shows the scarf made without the nupps on the edging.
The Crape Myrtle scarf and shawl can be worn so many different ways. Fold the shawl in half lengthwise and wear it as super cozy neck wrap or cowl. With the shawl folded over the knitting is double thickness so it creates a very warm cowl making the shawl a four-season accessory! The scarf can also be worn the same way. Try securing it with a shawl pick too.
